SIVAS

City Center

Sivas is the city where I was born and raised up and spent nearly most of my life. I love this historical city. That is why I wanted to construct a separate page for this nice city. Sivas is located exactly in the middle of Turkey or Anatolian Peninsula in geographic terms, in upper Kizilirmak zone, which is longest and one of the most important rivers of Turkey. A great part of city areas lies in upper Kizilirmak (Halys), the other parts lie in Yesilirmak (Iris) and Firat (Euphrates) basins.

As the capital of the province, Sivas has got 221. 512 population covering 28. 488 sq. km, comprised of 17 towns, 38 sub districts and 1246 villages. Because the city is situated in a strategic location or junction, train road and plane connections are possible to the other neighboring cities of Kayseri, Yozgat, Tokat, Ordu, Giresun, Malatya, Erzincan and Kahramanmaras.
Sivas has a continental steppe climate. The winters are very cold. Winter temperatures are often below freezing. The most conspicuous climatic feature is extreme hot and dry summers. In spring and autumn, it is rainy. In the last fifty years the coldest month is january with the temperature -34.6°C. The hottest month is July with the temperature 38.3°C. The highest precipitation is in May, the lowest is in August. According to the observation, made in 1992, the highest moisture 80,0% in december, the lowest is in August with 55.2%. The highest pressure is 874.1 mb in January and the lowest is 868 mb in February.
Sivas is recognized to be expert at producing elegant handcrafts especially authentic rugs and carpets that are well known not only in Turkey but also throughout the world. Sivas is also very famous for its Kangal Kopekleri (dogs), faithful companions that have got 19 special traits that ordinary dogs lack. To give a couple of examples, they are as big and strong as tigers. Most importantly, they can distinguish between well intentioned and ill intentioned people through their intuition.
